Patience Muyonga Namasopo is a Partner at Hove & Quill and heads the firm's Minerals & Energy Department, leading the firm's practice in Uganda's rapidly expanding extractive industries sector. She is an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda and holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre and a Postgraduate Diploma in Taxation from the East African School of Taxation, the latter critical for navigating Uganda's petroleum fiscal regime. Patience's practice encompasses the full spectrum of extractive industries legal services including mining licences and concessions under the Mining Act; production sharing agreements, joint operating agreements, and farm-in/farm-out arrangements under the Petroleum (Exploration, Development and Production) Act and the Petroleum (Refining, Conversion, Transmission and Midstream Storage) Act, local content compliance; environmental and social impact assessments under the National Environment Act; community relations and free, prior, and informed consent processes; petroleum fiscal regimes; and regulatory compliance with the Petroleum Authority of Uganda, the National Environment Management Authority, and the Directorate of Geological Survey and Mines. She advises international oil companies, mining corporations, service providers, and government agencies on complex transactions and regulatory frameworks, and represents clients in tax disputes with the Uganda Revenue Authority involving mining royalties, petroleum taxation, transfer pricing, and VAT refund claims. Beyond her minerals and energy practice, Patience brings extensive corporate governance and institutional legal experience: she previously served as Legal Officer at Uganda Christian University and as Legal Assistant at Zaale Oteete & Co. Advocates, and continues to advise universities, NGOs (including TRIDI), manufacturing firms (including Peak Value Industries), and educational institutions (including Cornerstone Junior School) on governance, compliance, property, and operational matters.
