Profile

Damalie Tebajjukira is an international development practitioner, researcher and consultant, and the firm’s Director of Research & Special Projects. She has more than six years of experience in applied research, policy analysis, programme design, monitoring and evaluation, institutional capacity development and strategic advisory work for government institutions, international development agencies, research institutions, civil society organisations and the private sector. She holds a Master of Arts and a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Development Studies, both from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa, and a Bachelor of Arts from Monash University in Australia.

Damalie has worked with the International Labour Organization, the Japan International Cooperation Agency, GIZ, Enabel, the International Development Research Centre, the African Centre for a Green Economy and the Asante Africa Foundation. Under the ILO she supported inclusive market systems, enterprise development and sustainable livelihoods work connected to the PROSPECTS programme. For JICA’s RECONNECT Project she contributed policy and institutional analysis on refugee and displacement responses across the Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes, working with Uganda’s Office of the Prime Minister, UNHCR and IGAD. For the GIZ-funded ParWest Project she mapped 121 civil society organisations and assessed the organisational capacity of 50 of them in the refugee-hosting districts of Adjumani and Obongi. Her research also extends to climate change, just transition, climate finance and extractives governance, including South Africa’s Just Energy Transition. She serves on the Youth Advisory Council of the African Union Development Agency, AUDA-NEPAD, and is a Board Member of Refugee Link, a social enterprise promoting fair and decent work for refugees and migrant workers.

Professionally, Damalie directs the firm’s Research & Special Projects practice. She gives technical direction to research and consultancy assignments, leads multidisciplinary research teams, maintains the quality assurance that the firm’s analytical and advisory outputs pass through, and builds the firm’s research partnerships. Her particular expertise is in fragility, forced displacement, refugee response, humanitarian-development-peace nexus programming and institutional resilience, and in bringing rigorous research to bear on programme and policy decisions.
